Prizes

The purpose of the award of prizes is to recognise the most significant contributions within this community by both members of the Armed Forces and civilians through the award of Annual Prizes.

​

DSA prizes are open to all military personnel, civil servants and civilians including those from the academic world who, in the opinion of the relevant Head of Profession and the DSA Council, have made a significant contribution to the advancement of the technology or management associated with targeting, locating, environmental support, mapping and the acquisition and management of geospatial data and historical research in the Defence geospatial arena. Individual prizes will be the norm, joint or team nominations being considered only in exceptional circumstances.

This year prizes have been awarded to the following:

 

  • Royal Navy personnel in the Hydrographic and Meteorological Service, including civilian staff directly supporting this Service and all UK HO personnel. Mr Alan Nicholls
     
  • Royal Engineer (Geographic) personnel, including civilian staff directly supporting this specialisation. Cpl Ashley Ross
     
  • All staff at the Defence Geographic Centre (DGC), all Mapping and Charting officers employed elsewhere but managed by DGC and all AIDU personnel. Joint award Dr Thomas Mockford and Mr Niall McManus

 

    Each prize will consist of an award certificate and a cheque for £200.
