About the Event
Major General Mungo Melvin will speak on:
‘Sevastopol: A Case Study of Geostrategy and Power Projection’
Major General Robert Adam Mungo Simpson Melvin CB OBE is a retired British Army officer and a noted military historian. Mungo has a long association with defence policy, military strategy, joint professional education, military history and analysis of operations. Mungo became a Senior Associate Fellow of RUSI in January 2012.
His final post before retirement was the leader of the Ministry of Defence's Enhancing Strategic Capability study, an input to Lord Levene's review into defence reform. As director of the Strategic Studies Cell at the Royal College of Defence Studies, he edited and co-wrote the College's monograph Thinking Strategically. He is best known for his biography of German Field Marshal Erich von Manstein. He is an Editorial Board Member on the Journal of Intelligence and Terrorism Studies. In 2017 he published the book Sevastopol’s Wars: Crimea from Potemkin to Putin.
